Dancing to music from Cars
Tonight my gymnastics students had a recital for their parents. It went well. They did routines to music from Cars, Tarzan and other movies. They did a good job.
It has been so much fun to work with these kids. I am going to miss them. I have been teaching tumbling/gymnastics for 14 years. I can hardly believe it has been that long! During that time I have taught my own classes (Foreveryoung Gymnastics) and I have also taught at All American Gymnastics, Hot Shots Dance Studio, the Little Gym, in my neighbor’s basement, and in three gyms in Wales while I was on my mission. I have learned so much from all of my experiences teaching.
Originally I started Foreveryoung Gymnastics because I wanted to make gymnastics fun. I was a competitive gymnast from age 4 to 16. For the last four years I trained four to five days a week for five hours each time. I planned on competing for the BYU gymnastics team, but I injured my back when I was 16 and had to stop training. I loved doing gymnastics and had a hard time when I couldn’t do it anymore.
While I was training, I wished it could be more fun and not so serious. I started teaching in my parents’s basement at first with camping foam pads. I was about 13 at the time. Gradually I earned enough money to buy mats. It took me several years to buy all of my mats, but it was worth it to have “real” equiptment.
I am so grateful I had the opportunity to teach these kids through the years. Most of the kids I taught at the beginning are married with a couple kids! Some went on missions. It has been fun to watch them grow up. I have taught a lot of their younger siblings too.
A couple months ago I decided to stop teaching gymnastics for a while. Some day I want to build a gym in my home and have a studio in my home. It has always been my dream to do this since I was little. It will be while until that happens, but I am excited for it.
It was hard tonight having our last recital. I didn’t say much about it being our last show because it would have made it harder. I was sad after it was over. I love those kids and I will miss them.

So fun!! Did you know that I teach cheer and dance? We really should get together some time! We seem to hang out in all the same places!

I had no idea that you had so many students–you always talked like it was a side thing that you had a couple of kids doing! I think it is so cool that you made it fun–very few are going to be able to do things competitively but so many could just have fun memories to enjoy!

That’s awesome that you have taught for so many years. You would be such a great teacher! It looks like you have been up to a lot of fun things like usual. That’s neat that your dad’s company won that award.

YOu are so neat Shannon! I hope that you get your own studio someday. That makes me feel old that kids you taught are married already.

Hi Shannon,
Just happened to see your website on google and thought I would write in. You are really neat and look like you have a great time teaching gymnastics! I happen to own a gym in Missouri and really need to move on because I have two little boys that need their mom. I’m 39 years old. If you are interested please e-mail me at American Gymnastics@gmail.com
Thank You,
Connie Smith
